Course Guide
By the end of this class you will have gained the knowledge necessary to apply for a job at any casino as a Poker Dealer. This class is designed to teach you how to deal the games of Texas Holdem, Omaha and 7 Card Stud. We will be covering in this brief introduction the different methods and topics covered within the course, as well as how and on what you will be graded.
What you see in front of you is your Student Center
This Student Center is designed to be your control panel for this class. You will begin by completing this syllabus and then clicking on the link for Unit 1. Clicking on each of the unit links will bring you to the unit home where you will be responsible for completing each section. As each section is completed, you will be allowed to move on to the next section.
You will be responsible for the following:
I. Reading Comprehension
Reading materials can be found both on the web site and within your welcome packet of course materials. You will be responsible for all of the information contained within these, which are laid out in an easy to follow unit by unit process.
There are five units in all:
1. Card Handling
2. Cheque Handling
3. Mastering the Games Part 1
4. Mastering the Games Part 2
5. Professionalism
II. Instructional Video Viewing
To view the section videos simply click on the play button located on the bottom left side of the video player. You are able to pause, rewind and fast forward through the video content.
III. Message Board Participation
Participation in the available forums is encouraged. You will have the opportunity to respond to questions posted by your instructor. To log into the student forum click on the Student Forums link as shown below and follow the steps to sign up.
IV. Examinations - Multiple Choice
You will be required to take two multiple choice examinations. The first will be administered after you have completed the first two units and the second will be given at the completion of the course. These multiple choice examinations will be graded on a pass / fail grading scale. In order to successfully complete the course you will be required to achieve a passing grade of 70% or higher on each exam.
V. Examinations - Video Recorded Exams
After completing the reading materials and watching all of the video content for each unit, you will be required to record a video exam which will be reviewed by one of our instructors. This will require that you demonstrate specific tasks such as shuffling the deck and cutting cheques in front of the webcam (included within your welcome package). Follow the instructions presented at the beginning of each exam and submit the recorded video for evaluation by your instructor. Your instructor will evaluate your exam and assign a pass / fail grade. Additionally, you are graded on:
1. Presentation -
2. Mechanics - Your motions, hand placement and comfortability as a dealer
3. Personal Appearance - Make sure you dress, look, and act professional
4. Overall - This will be your overall pass / fail grade that will determine if you need to retake the exam.
Note: You will NOT be allowed to move on to the next video exam without passing each exam in succession. For example, you will not be allowed to take the video exam for Unit 2 until after an instructor has evaluated and passed you on the Unit 1 video exam.
VI. Instructor Office Hours
Our instructors will post announcements on your student center home page as to when they will be having their online, live office hours. Durring these times you will able to click on the "live Classroom" link and ask the instructor questions pertaining to your class.
VII. Final Video Exam & Audition Video
The final video exam will consist of two separate video exams listed below:
1. Mechanical Skills - This is where you will showcase the mechanical skills you have learned through-out the course. Casino employers will be watching your hand and body movements to evaluate proper technique.
2. Personality Profile - This portion of the Final Video Exam / Audition is designed to let your personality shine. The Casino Industry is a service industry and a professional demeneor is essential to a sucessful career. You will be asked to provide some basic information on who you are, where you live, and why you have chosen the Casino Gaming Industry as your next career.
